Sally Harris was elected to the School Board, in District 2, in 2014 and is currently the Board Chair. She is one of seven members responsible for making policy decisions and overseeing a total budget of $2.9 billion for the 8th largest school district in the nation.
Raised in South Tampa, Ms. Harris began her professional career at the age of 16 working at the Tampa Post Office Federal Credit Union while attending Robinson High School.
After college she chose to follow a career as an Occupational Specialist/Career Counselor with the Hillsborough County School System utilizing her experience and training in such a way to relate to young people faced with their choices for future careers or education. She continued to equip herself with additional courses at the University of Florida in management skills, stress management, time management and values clarification. Her choice of careers lead to five years of service on the board of the Florida Vocational Association, where she served as State President of this 5,000 member association. During this time she represented the State of Florida as a State Consultant in the states of Virginia, Texas, Alabama and Georgia.
She is also widower and mother of five children, three by birth and two adopted. Her love for children lead her from 1969 thru 2016 to raise over 32 foster children in which today she is still in contact today with several of them.
Today she is a nationally recognized child care provider, educator and speaker addressing issues from early child education, special needs programs and marriage enrichment.
